Lina started her basketball caree with TuS Lichterfelde before moving to USC Freiburg, she then joined the UCLA Bruins in 2022. During her freshman year, she led the team with 37 blocks, marking the third-highest single-season block total for a freshman in UCLA women's basketball history. She played a pivotal role in guiding the Bruins to consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in the 2023 and 2024 NCAA tournaments.
Sontag has been an active member of Germany's national basketball teams across various age groups. She represented the U16 team in 2018 and 2019, the U20 team in 2022, and made her senior national team debut in 2021 during the FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers. In 2023, she participated in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket, where Germany achieved a sixth-place finish. In 2024, Sontag was part of the German squad at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Brazil, aiming for a spot in the Paris Olympics.
